"...Darren Loucas' guitar playing is a revelation."
- The Stranger
"Darren's songs are a cocktail of pop, rock and blues, full of those genre's sweetest strains." - The Stranger
"As a fellow musician, I count Darren among the best guitarists in Seattle, if not THE best. He is also excellent company.''
- Dave Dederer, The Presidents of the United States of America
"Darren Loucas' guitar playing never fails to astonish with its improbable power. He combines the yearning urgency of Big Star and the incendiary guitar of Page and Hendrix...catch him live!"
"Juke's self-titled debut is one of the more moving to come out of the Northwest in recent years. Darren Loucas displays Jeff Buckley-like vocal tendencies allowing his voice to slip into vibrato as the music ebbs and flows. But unlike the recent parade of male artists, Loucas writes sophisticated, even complex songs that combine blues and rock elements to fit his unique vision. ...Juke could be the one to watch in the second half of '01."
-Richard Martin, Seattle Weekly and CMJ - Richard Martin
I really miss album covers.
Coming home from the OMNI mall in Miami with a new record was tied for first
with the greatest feelings ever. I'd sit and stare deeply into the cover and
all over the sleeve, poring over the images and liner notes while the music played,
pausing only to what ? ...get UP and FLIP the record.
Side 2 baby.
When this EP was finished, I realized that I didn't want to bring
another 1000+ CD's into the world because they are quite frankly, "jive AF" and
therefore, devoid of all soul. So I asked my friend and graphical wizard Shawn Wolfe to
design a poster that would fold into a classic, LP sized cellophane sleeve, complete
with an insert for my lyrics. It would contain NO CD or actual album - just a sticker
with a download code. It is something tactile. A physical, album -SIZED poster that is a
sympathetic and visual soulmate to the music.
...to be held with both hands while listening to the music.
